It assumes the outcome based on the querent continuing their current course of action. Of course, if the outcome card is not a desirable outcome, it is within the free will of the querent to make the necessary changes to their situation. This is perhaps one of the most difficult positions to interpret. Keep in mind that hopes and fears are closely intertwined, therefore that which we hope for may also be that which we fear, and so may fail to happen.
While these are mostly career cards, they can serve as love cards too. The major arcana are composed of the archetype cards like the sun, the magician and the lovers.
Another way to verify a card is to say “Confirm if this is the right card.” If pendulum swings clockwise, it’s verified (confirmed). If it swings counter-clockwise or is unclear, you’ll want to go back to the side one chart to re-ask or even rephrase the question. Your pendulum may begin in a circular or even an erratic swing. Be patient and it will eventually evolve into a directional swing – outwards from the point, over one or more wedges in the chart.
That’s almost right, but tarot doesn’t tell you what will happen—it tells what might happen, and more importantly, how you should show up to it. The tarot is a tool for self-discovery, so it’s important to trust your intuition when interpreting the cards. The cards can bring up emotions, memories or feelings that may be relevant for the reading, and should be taken into account. This spread is great for simple, quick readings and it’s easy to understand and use.
For instance, this Antique Anatomy deck uses Elixirs (Cups), Rods (Wands), Coins (Pentacles), and Blades (Swords). And while all of the cards are based off of medical and botanical journals, they have the same overall meanings.
How to Use Your Pendulum to Read the Tarot (without Tarot Cards)
My personal rule of thumb is that at least a month should pass between readings. This is for even the most eager of clients, because I truly want the cards to change for them upon their next reading, showing the growth and progress they have made since their initial reading. This may not be the case for all clients; some of them only need a check-in once or twice a year, and that works for them. Sometimes I have clients that just can’t wait to have another tarot reading. While I love enthusiastic clients, I do have to get them to take a deep breath, calm down, and remind them that there’s work that needs to be done first. Just as Etteilla (Alliette) did in the 18th century, the Rider-Waite deck came with a guide assigning meanings for each card to help a reader better understand the deck. For now, let’s dive deeper into the history of tarot reading so you can learn more about the experience of having your cards read.

The Tarot Spread

Golden Thread Tarot started out as a simple illustration project where I illustrated a card each day. I chose what to design by pulling a random card in the morning. Read more about Free Tarot Readings here. This deck is the product of that project, but I also want to take it further. In the spread in the photo, the past is represented by the Hermit, which is the ninth card in the Major Arcana. When the Hermit appears in a reading, know that you have a chance to receive wisdom from the Divine, or from the spirit world. The Hermit reminds us that our goals can be attained, but the journey is not always smooth or easy. Perhaps our Querent has been forced to struggle through hardships on his journey.
